This Indian designer has played an important role of promoting Indian fashion all around the world. It’s been a long time now for the designer since he started in the Indian fashion industry and has since been featured in countless fashion weeks and shows.
For the Indian stylist, the fashion world is not about playing a game or a competition between the designers, it’s about creativity and business acumen.
With the end of the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2015 that celebrated the 15 years of this fabulous event, Malhotra is really pleased to know that the Indian fashion industry is now being promoted as an organised fashion event. Thanks to this big event that we have seen for 15 years, there has been an incredible evolution of Indian fashion with modern and international perspectives.
In November 1999, the designer received good appreciation for creating stunning and classy ensembles with traditional Indian textures, colours, textiles, craftsmanship and embroidery, during his first ever fashion show.
Since the beginning of his career almost 20 years ago, he has received approximately 35 awards. The designer has really lived a success story. Nowadays, he’s not just a regular Indian designer that’s been featured in India’s major fashion weeks, but he has also designed for more than 100 Bollywood movies, and is known on the runways abroad such as Paris, New York and Milan.
Manish has stated that there is more and more demand for contemporary Indian fashion in the western countries, and that it is important to know this market, so to then promote India’s strengths all over the world.
Manish Malhotra has previously stated that to have a successful collection globally, there needs a particular balance of creativity, relevance and business acumen. There is now a great demand for contemporary Indian fashion abroad because of the fascination of the sensuality of Indian cuts, colours palette and even the silhouettes. For all Indian designers, this makes it very interesting to design new clothes for the international customers.
This Indian creative talent has already dressed stars such as Karisma Kapoor, Kajol, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta.
Every costume Malhotra has designed for Bollywood movies was a translation of the personality of the protagonist, because for the Indian designer, movie costumes are a sub-set of visual storytelling.
To conclude, 2015 is a great year for the Indian designer Manish Malhotra. And for what comes next, he will definitely surprise us once again!
